Shadow Shot Sunday

It’s the times when I am home when I wouldn’t  usually be home that I am surprised and delighted by the shadows that dance around my house, when no one is looking.

Shadow Shot Sunday celebrates shadows from all over the world.
If you would like to participate, please visit Hey Harriet’s blog.

This week has been a funny week.

I have been alone since last Saturday, when I dropped my Peter man at the airport.

We have not spoken since then (only texted).
I worry that he can’t survive without my guidance screeching in his ear about everything!

He has written, if you can call poking a finger onto letters on the front of an iPhone writing, pages and pages and I have responded.
We have kept up a steady stream of communication, but if I don’t hear something the minute I know he wakes up (six hours after I have woken up) I panic.
He is in South Africa.
Because I know very little about South Africa, I believe he must be in constant danger, so my ‘thoughts’ take over and I imagine all sorts of calamities have occurred.

However, the problem is, in Peter’s words,
“They are really not anywhere near as techno-resourced as we are”
So, if I don’t hear anything it is not because he has been kidnapped, robbed of all his belongings (including his iPhone), eaten by a pack of marauding lions, or become lost on the savannah.

Will I ever be a relaxed, laid back, middle aged woman?
Or will I always be a timid, emotional little child with an overactive imagination?
No need to answer that, thanks.

Suffice to say, I have been alone.
Some things about being alone are good and others not so good, but overall, ‘doable’ as long as I don’t have food in the house – (see binging on anything and everything to relieve the boredom or whatever that dumb emotion is).

I have had time to blog.
I have had time to start a new blog.
What am I thinking?
I don’t even have time for this blog.

I have had time to clean.
I mean, really clean.
Not just a quick wipe over of everything with the nearest tissue or washing the floor with a piece of absorbent paper.
Well, that’s the plan, anyway.

So, I will get on with it.

I wanted to leave you with some words from today’s sermon.
The sermons at our church are usually very short – today’s was a bit longer (about 15 minutes).
I don’t think I need to go into detail and I don’t think you need to be a church-goer or even a believer in God for these words to resonate in your spirit like they did mine.

“We need beauty and we need magnificence to stimulate the soul”

Where else on a Sunday, but church?
Twice today;
once to worship
and a second time to St John’s in Fremantle for a recital
and this is where my shadow shot comes from
(well, I can listen and take photos at the same time!)

To view and participate in Shadow Shot Sunday
a quick visit to Hey Harriet is all it takes!

Wrapping up Sunday.

Just munching on a wild hibiscus flower.

Tomorrow renovations continue.
Fridge is in the lounge room.
How very convenient for bubbles top ups,
but not so much for reaching for the butter

Our music from Restaurant Pearl plays on, not really in the background,
because it’s Sunday evening.
Our little, private party time.

Peter has flown to Sydney and back, we have been to church twice and now,
finally time to rest and recreate!

Ready for Monday
and another week!

All the love in the world.

Today is special for a two reasons!
Number one – Shadow Shot Sunday!
Number two – the last day of Blogtoberfest!

I do feel in a little bit of a party mood.
And party I will.
Sunday night can be quite the celebratory night in our house.

This afternoon my sister called in on her way home from work to pick up the keys for our ‘country’ house, where she will spend a night with her oldest, closest friend, just for a catch up. Her friend lives up North now and has two babies!!
Yes, babies!
At our age!
She obviously had her fun while everyone else was settling down, I suppose and now all those settled down people are unsettled and she is settling down and having babies. Good on her!
Whatever works for you, girl. Go for it!

We had an early cocktail hour with my sister. I love seeing her. We’re the only two in the metro area and she lives half an hours drive from us but her job takes her to many locations around where we live and where I work, so we have been able to catch up semi-regularly lately.

Ahhh, family!
I love family life; catching up with family. It is the most important thing to me.
They have been and always will be there for me/us.
We’re so blessed by our family and friends.

Oh, how badly do I drift off track?
‘Stream of consciousness’, I think they call it.
So, let me get back on track.
It’s Shadow Shot Sunday!
Hosted by Tracy at Hey Harriet.
Today was a perfect shadow day, because it was so sunny.
Summer is definitely working very hard to be with us and today his (yes I think of Summer as a masculine season) efforts were commendable.

It was dry.
It was sunny.
It was a great day for drying the washing (four loads – where did they come from?)
It was warm.
We sat outside and didn’t need jumpers!
Summer does feel good!

Here is our bed cover drying on the ‘communal’ Hills Hoist, my Shadow Shot.

This is the story!

Our adoptive cat had walked all over it with wet, dirty paws sometime during the night last week, when Summer took a break and Winter gladly took over, with her (yes, I see Winter as a woman; melancholy, moody, lots of precipitation and lightning and thunder. I’m sure you understand, girls) freezing winds and driving rain which made it unpleasant for Kitty to spend any more time than absolutely necessary, doing whatever Kitty needs to do outside at 3.38am on a Wednesday morning, then meowing at the bedroom door, having climbed a tree, walked the perimeter of about seven balconies, jumping over the bamboo screen surrounding our balcony and landing with muddy, wet paws to wait impatiently for one of us useless humans (me) to wake up, get up and open the door leading to his adoptive haven, at 3.59am, so he can stroll, with his wet, little muddy paws, all over the white bed cover to find a satisfactory resting place.
Did you get that?

Buddy goes out on a wild and stormy, wintry night and returns 21 minutes later with MUDDY paws and jumps straight onto our bed, finds his pozzy after walking said paws all over WHITE bed cover, sleeps for about an hour and then expects to repeat the whole scenario and, do you know what? We usually oblige!

So that’s the story for my Shadow Shot.

Now Blogtoberst..

Blogtoberfest has been quite a month. I made a commitment.
A commitment is a big deal to me, so when I make a commitment I MUST keep it.
I committed to blog every day for the month of October and I also committed to posting an AFFIRMATION A DAY!
I think I have missed two, maybe three days, but today is the last day!!!
Hip, hip, hooray!!
Not because I am happy it is over, more like the closing ceremony for the Olympics; celebrating all that has been achieved, good and bad. Just rejoicing with fellow Blogtoberfestians. We have shared something together.
And I would like/love to thank Cathy!
From Tinniegirl.
Thank you girl!
For hosting Blogtoberfest again, this year. I know it hasn’t been easy for you. I sincerely hope and pray that all you hope for and dream of, will come your way, soon!

And my thanks also, to all the beautiful girls who have stopped by our blog and left kind and encouraging comments.
You make my day!

Whoo boy! This is turning into an epic.

It’s time for the final AFFIRMATION A DAY! for the Blogtoberfest month.
(Wait, while I refer to my trusty Bible)
This is from 1 Corinthians 13:4-7

Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.

Haven’t we all heard this at a wedding and thought ‘Ohhhh, yes! How lovely. Yeah, that’s the kind of love I want’.
Well, yes indeed. How lovely.
These are God-breathed words. That is why they are lovely.

I said at the beginning of Blogtoberfest that I didn’t believe that this would be a forum for expounding religious beliefs.

The affirmations I have shared are simple words from the Bible. There are those who know the Word and will question the context of the affirmations. I have deliberately made them ‘accessible’ to the mainstream reader. I haven’t mentioned God very often, because I didn’t want to ‘Bible bash’.
But, everyone.
For the record. Every affirmation is made up of words from the Bible.
If you felt touched by them, that was all I hoped for, in whatever context.
You are blessed and you are a blessing.

Don’t ever forget that God loves YOU!

Happy, happy, blessed Blogtober!!

PS: Don’t forget my Giveaway. It has been running for the whole of Blogtoberfest and the last comment I receive dated in October will be the close off for entries. I’m in Western Australia, so not sure what time that will be where ever you are, but very soon I imagine.

All the love in the world,

Shadow Shot Sunday AKA the 17th Day of Blogtoberfest

Sunday blessings everyone! What a beautiful day today.
The sun’s almost setting and being a glass-half-empty kinda girl I will mention that I have a bed cover still hanging on the line and it isn’t dry yet. However my husband says it will dry in half an hour, because he is such a glass-half-full kinda guy.
That’s why I love him!

First on the agenda? Shadow Shot Sunday. I wanted to take this photo last Sunday, but unlike today, it was very wintry and overcast, so couldn’t. So as soon as the sun came out during the week I snapped it. This was just as I arrived home. Buddy happened to have been waiting and made my shadow shot all the sweeter by joining in. I wonder if his people ever wonder where he is. He spends more time with us than with them. I’m not complaining though.

So here it is. A sweet cat who seems to have adopted us, a little lavender bush growing out of the wall and me, just arrived home from work as the sun was meandering towards the horizon.

Onto my AFFIRMATION A DAY! This is straight from Hebrews 13:2.

Do not forget to entertain strangers, for by so doing some people have entertained angels without knowing it.

I love this one so much. Who knows when there might be an angel among us? What a beautiful thought.

We had such a beautiful, peaceful, restful Sunday – church this morning, followed by a long, long lunch with a beautiful friend. Then home, where we have done just a little housework but more importantly, hung all the solar powered lights – above the door and in the tree. I’m hanging out for nightfall. I can’t wait to see them!

Blessed Sunday to those who are finishing up their evening and to those who are about to begin their day. Oh, and happy Blogtoberfest!!

PS: Don’t forget my Blogtoberfest Giveaway – it’s so easy to be in the draw. I will show you what I have put together soon, but hey, what have you got to lose? Enter anyway. I’m putting together a package I would love to win! Let’s just call it a lucky dip for now.

Hey, the bed cover is dry!!!!!

Shadow Shot Sunday

It’s day 10 of Blogtoberfest, so a third of the way through my commitment to blog everyday during the month of October.
My plan also is to give you AN AFFIRMATION A DAY! with words taken from the Bible. That part is really for me, but I thought it might be encouraging for someone else as well.

Firstly, though, today is Shadow Shot Sunday, hosted by Tracy at Hey Harriet (confusing, I know). Here is my shadow. This sculpture is on the side of a house! We see it when we park down by the river for our Summer picnics.
The Summer picnics are a little way off yet. Today it feels like winter has returned.

I think it’s an unusual thing to do; to have a sculpture built into the design of your house.
I suppose if I had lots of money and I built my dream home down by the river, I might add some quirky touches, that others would find unusual. I do love this though. One man heralds the sunrise and the other, the sunset, while the other two, well, I’m not sure what they’re doing. Maybe one looking towards heaven and one to earth?

So, onto today’s affirmation.
Here we have words from the Bible, that happen to sound very much like something you would read in ‘The Secret’. Funny that. I know which book I would rather believe!
‘Whatever you have asked for in prayer, believe you have received it, and it will be yours’
That’s from Mark 11:24

Happy Sunday, 10th of Blogtober!

Our plane flying us to Sapporo….

Our random neighbourhood rooster that crowed way too early in the dark morning hours……… then disappeared for ever….

A surprising spin on the Perth Wheel (on the way home from Ikea)………

Shadow Shot Sunday is so graciously hosted by Hey Harriet. All are welcome to view shadows and submit shadows, should you feel so inclined.

Half way to 90. But who’s counting?

We are in Perth now. We are not in Bali any more.

I will say nothing more.

Biku is on Peti Tenget in Seminyak. Yet another place we loved. And guess what? There were shadows there too. You can rely on shadows. They will follow you wherever you go. They travel free, just like a little baby, but they don’t cry and they don’t need feeding and you don’t have to worry about them contracting Bali belly. Oh, I’m talking rubbish really, aren’t I?

More shadows can be viewed at Hey Harriet. You can join in with your own shadow.
